Maria's Must Have Bras - What Is Going On With My Bra Straps?

Your Strap Problems Solved

If you find yourself asking this question then there could be several reasons why your straps are bothering you.

Problem: My bra straps tend to hurt my shoulders. They dig in and leave awful red marks and dents. Can you tell me why?

Answer: One of the main reasons why your bra straps may be digging in and causing painful markings on your shoulders may be because you are wearing them too tight. Many women make the mistake of thinking that the support comes from the straps or worse yet have been misinformed as to where the support comes from. Your bra straps are there to lend some support to your band, which actually provides the support in your bra. Making your bra straps tight is not ensuring any support just major discomfort and pain. Loosen those bra straps up and breathe a sigh of relief.

Problem: My straps keep falling off my shoulders. I constantly have to pull them back up. Please Help!

Answer: There can be a couple of reasons this may be happening. One can be because you are wearing your straps too loose. Another reason may be that you have sloping shoulders.

Try adjusting your straps to a comfortable level to prevent the straps from falling. This should do the trick.

If you have sloping shoulders (narrow shoulders) then try to stay away from Demi Cup bras/Balcony Bras because they tend to have the straps set further apart than other regular bras. Try bras with the straps set more inward such as Fantasie 4500. Another alternative would be to wear a strap connector like the ones from Fashion Forms. They hold your straps together preventing them from slipping.

Problem: My straps feel really uncomfortable. I don't like the thin strap feeling. What can I do?

Answer: Many manufacturers make bras with Comfort Straps. Many of these bras have padding on the straps preventing them from feeling uncomfortable. The straps feel nice and provide supple comfort. You may also try some comfy straps by an accessories maker like Fashion Forms.
